Antimicrobial polymers

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared in 2014 that antimicrobial resistance is one of the greatest threats to human health. To combat this issue, the development of new antimicrobial agents is imperative. A promising approach entails the use of advanced synthetic polymer chemistry to develop new synthetic antimicrobial macromolecules. Our research focus in this area is to understand the structure-activity relationship of such antimicrobial macromolecules, namely investigating the effects of chemical composition, monomer sequence (and tacticity) and polymer architecture on the antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity as well as biocompatibility.
